About My Life

Dudley

Hello There!

My name is Dudley Fournier and I’m a lifelong Bay Area resident. I’ve managed to wear many hats in my career. Here’s what I’ve been up to…

My Journey

Charles Schwab | 2021-Present

Since July 2021, I have worked for Charles Schwab Corp., the USA’s largest publicly traded investment services firm. Currently, I’m focused on improving and refining the account onboarding experience for new and existing clients as one of the lead designers on the Self-Directed Onboarding and Activation team. Prior to that, I was the lead designer for our iOS, iPadOS, and Android Digital Welcome Experience for users migrating to Schwab as a part of the TD Ameritrade acquisition.

OpenText | 2014-2021

From 2014 to 2021, I worked for OpenText, the leader in Enterprise Information Management (EIM). From 2014 to 2016 I worked as a UX Designer, focused on the Analytics suite of products. Starting in 2016, I worked with the TeamSite product suite. As a combined Interaction and Visual Designer, I was responsible for providing comprehensive prototypes and mock-ups along with detailed visual design specifications.

SF Chronicle | 2010-2014

From 2010 to 2014, I worked for The San Francisco Chronicle in advertising operations. Working in digital advertising operations gave me a wide view of the business and allowed me the freedom to develop my skills in visual and interaction design.

Education

In 2010, I graduated from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona with a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Communication. My studies focused on the interactions of people with information. This study of verbal and nonverbal communication has been the foundation of my career in UX.

Mentions

If you want smart UX design, Dudley’s your guy. He brings an astonishing level of research and thought to his designs, crafting both forward-thinking solutions and intelligent explanations for his design choices. Selling his designs to stakeholders couldn’t be easier, because he’s already clearly identified how they solve both business and interface problems. He’s also an excellent player in open-ended concept development, generating new ideas on the fly while helping others refine their own visions. If you’re building something new from the ground up, he’s your man — and he can take a rough concept into more detailed wireframes and prototypes so you can see how the dream translates into reality.

Steven Sassaman
Director of User Experience, Actuate (now OpenText)

Dudley is an asset to any team that he is a part of. He quickly identifies issues, works with internal stakeholders to understand needs and develops solutions. He is accustomed to working independently in a fast-paced environment. Additionally, Dudley is self-motivated and able to work with very little direct supervision, while producing quality results. Throughout my time in supervising Dudley, he was an active contributor to our team and regularly provided outstanding results and service for his internal and external customers. I would readily hire him again.

Angela Apple
Director of Advertising Training and Operations, San Francisco Chronicle

A lot of the credit for our success goes to Dudley. As Product Management’s partner, he designed not only the User Interface, but truly the whole User Experience, with an emphasis on “Experience”. He takes the time to understand the customer’s pain points, understand the motivations and KPI’s for a feature, and really sweats the details as he works out the user flows and UI elements. I consider Dudley an indispensable design partner. Often, when PM might be tempted to cut corners due to engineering push-back around complexity or time, Dudley is an independent voice who insists on doing the right thing. He is an effective tie-breaker when we don’t have hard data, which is often the case. Also, he’s conscientious and responsive, and has a great eye for design.

Kuldeep Misri
Principle Product Manager, OpenText

Dudley is what every team needs. He is passionate, focused, self-motivated, and approaches his work with boundless enthusiasm. He advocates for the needs of his users and for user research backed solutions. As a colleague, he approaches his work with an open and collaborative mindset.

Dudley is a compelling communicator and a gem to work with. As a contributor to our Design System, his voice is always a welcome sound on team calls. He is skilled at quickly understanding requirements and limitations and sharing his opinions and insights. Dudley is able to take his knowledge of current design and technology trends and help propose realistic improvements that fit the greater organization’s suite of products, not just his individual product.

On a personal note, working with Dudley is an absolute pleasure and has made me a better designer. He is genuine, charismatic, and funny and it’s impossible not to like him.

Belinda Burr (née McGee)
Lead UX Designer, OpenText

Dudley is an innovative and dedicated colleague with a very positive outlook. From a UX perspective, Dudley has good UX instincts and knowledge. He goes the ‘extra mile’ to better understand his products from his users’ perspective. Dudley is always ready to provide a helping hand to a fellow teammate. Often when it’s late in the day for me (EST), Dudley is readily accepting of me bouncing ideas off of him and always provides insightful feedback on my UX designs. In team calls and guideline meetings, Dudley continues to display his professionalism by being engaged conversations and readily has UX experiences and observations to share with the team.

From a personable perspective, Dudley is compassionate, funny, sociable and hard-working and I enjoy working with him.

Christine O’Connor
Senior UX Designer, OpenText

Dudley and I were part of OpenText’s UX team and both worked in the company’s Digital Experience Products group. Whether it was advice on how to tackle a difficult design challenge, how to incorporate new functionality into design guidelines, or just feedback on a solution under development, Dudley was the ‘go to’ resource. Insightful, knowledgeable, and resourceful, Dudley never ceased to impress me with his command of user experience design principals and creative acumen. His natural propensity toward open collaboration made him a pleasure to work with. As a whole, Dudley is a tremendous asset, not just as a colleague, but for any team or organisation.

Daniel Ponech
Senior UX Designer, OpenText

I had the absolute pleasure of working with Dudley over the past 2.5 years. Having Dudley on my team was one of those strokes of luck that don’t happen often. I was very grateful to have Dudley as the UX Designer on my first project at OpenText. He is a talented designer with skills and knowledge that reach beyond just design. He proactively helped me to understand the complex interdependencies of adding new user experiences on a mature enterprise product. He designed, drove experiments to verify the design, proposed practical UX solutions, and guided the development team to a successful implementation. Dudley’s ability to approach problems with an open mind, understand the challenges and design goals, and come up with the right UX design approach make him a very valuable UX designer to any team.
